The Cassini packet transponder enables network operators to easily extend and migrate existing metro and long-haul Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) networks to add new 100G capacities and extend inter-datacenter and Layer 3 services.
Cassini is a 1.5-RU open packet optical transponder, whose design was contributed to Telecom Infra Project (TIP) by Edgecore Networks and which is now generally available as a commercial open network product from Edgecore. It is the industry's highest capacity and first modular open packet transponder offering a flexible mix of 100 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) packet switching ports and 100/200 Gbps coherent optical interfaces for data center interconnect and service provider backhaul use cases.
As an open network platform, Cassini supports disaggregated software options including OcNOSTM from IP Infusion, a whitebox switching NOS optimized for service provider and data center interconnect applications. Its availability on the Cassini packet optical transponder can help network operators easily extend and migrate existing metro and long-haul Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) networks to add new 100G capacities, and extend inter-DC L2 and L3 services. Later in 2019, Fujitsu carrier grade NOS will be supported on Cassini as well.
Combined with the Transponder Abstraction Interface (TAI), which greatly simplifies the integration work between a network operating system and the underlying optical hardware, operators are equipped with more flexibility and faster time to deliver for the quick replacement of individual components, rather than replacing entire monolithic solutions.

Bare-metal hardware switch pre-loaded with diagnostics software and the Open Network Install Environment (ONIE) for automated loading of compatible open source and commercial NOS offerings.
Metro Transmission: 200G 16QAM coherent plug-in card and future 400G coherent plug-in card.
OCP Compliant. Supports ONIE, OOM (TBD).
Open and Flexible: Line-side plug-in (CFP2-ACO, CFP2-DCO, 2 x QSFP28). Non-coherent/coherent subscription ratios of 1:1 to 15:1 (also grey fiber/color fiber subscription ratios), ACO "plug-and-play" with automatic conditioning of the analogue line.
